Three held for stealing car during test drive, leading police chase to Rotterdam
Two men and a woman were arrested on Saturday after a lengthy high-speed chase across Noord-Brabant, which ended in Rotterdam, Zuid-Holland. The incident started after the three had took a car out for a test drive in Tilburg, according to Omroep Brabant.
They did not return the car, but instead drove it across the border to Belgium, the regional media outlet reported. Police were alerted when the car was caught by a number plate scanner when it was driven back into the Netherlands near Ulvenhout.
The pursuit started late Friday night near Breda. The police-involved chase started quickly, and escalated with more officers responding when the driver allegedly refused to stop.
A police helicopter was dispatched to follow the stolen car, and share information with crews on the ground. About 50 kilometers later, the chase ended in the Rotterdam-Zuid district.
A freelance reporter told the broadcaster that the suspects attempted to flee on foot. Police apprehended a 21-year-old man from Hilvarenbeek, along with a 23-year-old from Rotterdam and a 22-year-old woman from Schiedam. The man from Hilvarenbeek is believed to have been the one behind the wheel.
