Large fire in apartment complex in The Hague, four people hospitalized
A large fire broke out on Sunday afternoon in an apartment complex near Hollands Spoor station in The Hague, where many students live. Four people were taken to hospital because they inhaled smoke, according to a spokesperson for the Haaglanden security region.
The fire broke out on the eighth floor of the residential building in the Van Maanenkade around 1:30 p.m. The eighth and ninth floors of the complex had been evacuated. The adjacent Rijswijkseplein was also cordoned off. According to the spokesperson, trams are still running there, but all other traffic is being diverted.
Shortly after the first reports of the fire came in, the fire department scaled up to a very large fire. Therefore, many vehicles and firefighters were deployed, often supported by regional units. In addition, ten ambulances were on site, according to Hart Van Nederland.
Around 2:45 p.m., the Safety Region reported that the fire was under control. They are now focusing on getting the smoke out of the apartment complex.
