One killed, two hurt in accident with wrong-way driver on A73 highway near Cuijk
An accident with a wrong-way driver on the A73 highway near Cuijk left one person dead and two injured early on Wednesday morning. One of the wounded is in critical condition, the Oost-Brabant police reported.
The accident happened at around 5:30 a.m. and involved three cars. Various emergency services are at the scene. A helicopter carrying a trauma team landed on the highway, ANP reported.
The police first received a report of a wrong-way driver on the highway, and the report of the crash came a short time later. The police are investigating what happened.
The accident happened on the highway heading south, but the emergency services closed both sides of the highway. Shortly before 7:00 a.m., they opened one lane in the northern direction.
A spokesperson for traveler’s organization ANWB told NOS that the accident caused “proper chaos.” The Rijkswaterstaat advised people traveling toward Venlo to detour from the Ewijk junction via the A50, A2, and A67. Those traveling toward Nijmegen can detour from the Zaarderheiken junction via the A67, A2, and A50.
