A Dutch woman and child were rescued from the rubble of a collapsed hotel in Kroev, Germany. A Dutchman, the father of the family, is still trapped but alive, various media reported. Their condition is unknown.
One person died, and eight people ended up under the rubble when the hotel collapsed late last night. The family from Urk - man, woman, and their child - was among them, a family member confirmed to Omroep Flevoland.
According to the local newspaper Het Urkerland, the Dutch people are a 23-year-old woman, a 26-year-old man, and their 2-year-old child.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the municipality of Urk could not yet confirm the presence of Dutch people in the rubble of the German hotel. The identity of the other trapped people and the person who died is not yet known. According to NOS, the emergency services have not yet been able to recover the body.
The hotel partially collapsed at around 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday, the German police said. According to the German website Der Spiegel, it was a two-story building with 14 people inside at the time of the collapse. Five of them got out on their own.
The emergency services are using dogs and drones to reach the victims, but it is slow-going because there is still a risk of collapse. Rescue workers have made contact with six of the eight trapped people, including the Urk family. There has been no contact with two victims, the German press agency DPA reported.
The cause of the collapse is not yet known.
