Tropical temps to give way to cooler weather from Sunday
Friday and Saturday will be hot in the Netherlands, with thermometers climbing to 30 degrees in many places, abundant sunshine, and no rain expected. But it will be short-lived. Showers will hit the country on Saturday evening, bringing cooler weather with them, according to Weeronline.
Friday will start heating up early, with temps reaching 21 to 25 degrees by mid-morning. Thermometers will continue to climb and many places will see maximums of between 28 and 30 degrees. Even the Wadden Islands will hit summer values, with the maximum climbing to 26 degrees.
Today is the last day of the Nijmegen Vierdaagse, the four-day walking event in Nijmegen. Due to the heat, the organization decided to cut the routes by 10 kilometers. Participants will, therefore, cover 40, 30, or 20 kilometers today instead of 50, 40, or 30 kilometers. According to the Vierdaagse, today is the first time ever that the event has a 20-kilometer route. About 42,000 people will participate in the Vierdaagse on Friday.
Friday is also the last day of school for kids in the Noord region. After today, all schools in the Netherlands are closed for summer vacation. The travelers’ organization ANWB has set up a car-check station at the border in Hazeldonk, Noord-Brabant, where vacationers can have their car checked a last time before heading out of the country.
Saturday will be another hot day. Some places in the southeast could see temperatures up to 33 degrees. The beaches will also have summer weather, with maximums between 27 and 29 degrees. Most of the day will be abundantly sunny everywhere.
However, cloud cover will start to increase from the southwest in the afternoon. In the evening, the wind will gradually turn to the southwest, bringing with it showers and potential thunderstorms overnight.
The meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow thunderstorm warning for Limburg, Noord-Brabant, Utrecht, and Gelderland, warning of winds up to 75 kilometers per hour, hail, and downpours.
Sunday will be significantly less warm. A moderate westerly wind will bring cooler air into the country, and maximums will range between 20 degrees near the sea to 25 degrees in the east. Showers are possible throughout the country.
“The temperature will drop further in the new week.” Maximums will range between 20 and 23 degrees. The weather picture consists of a mix of sun, clouds, and some showers.
