Politician hurt, wife killed in shooting on Sint Maarten: report
Olivier Arrindell, a politician and leader of the Oualichi Movement for Change (OMC) on Sint Maarten, sustained minor injuries in a shooting near Maho on Wednesday evening. His wife was killed in the shooting, the Telegraaf wrote after reports in local media.
The politician was in the car with his wife and daughter when someone opened fire on them. Arrindell fled, driving to the Sonesta Maho Resort, and sought shelter in the lobby. His wife died in the parking lot of the resort. It is unclear whether his daughter was hurt.
The police on Sint Maarten reportedly confirmed that there was a shooting but did not confirm that Arrindell was involved or that his wife was killed.
As a politician, Arrindell is mainly known on Sint Maarten for opposing former Prime Minister Silveria Jacobs. Last year, he frequently accused Jacobs of corruption.
