Dutch sniffer dogs heading to France to look for missing Dutch tourist, 73
A group of volunteers from the Rescue Dog Foundation will head to France on Friday with several dogs to search for the missing Dutch tourist Marjan Roozendaal. The 73-year-old woman went missing on Sunday after leaving the Parc Le Duc campsite in Vacquières. According to several media, her family is very worried because she is in the early stages of Alzheimer’s.
Roozendaal’s family contacted the Rescue Dog Foundation on Wednesday morning and asked for help, Louse Smits-Jansen of the foundation told Hart van Nederland. “Fortunately, we also have a lot of cooperation from the police and embassy there. Everyone is working together very well.”
Smits-Jansen did not want to speculate on their chances of finding the Dutch woman. After five days, traces will be hard to find, but their dogs are trained to look for people more than traces.
The dogs and volunteers will give it their everything, Smits-Jansen said. “It could have been your own father or mother. You want to find them at all costs. Although you should not give false hope to those left behind, there must be a small chance of success. Otherwise, you’d stay home,” she said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is providing assistance to Roozendaal’s family. For privacy reasons, the Ministry would not comment on her medical condition.
