Schiedam chocolatier flooded with orders after chocolate bar goes viral on TikTok

De Bonte Koe chocolatier in Schiedam is being flooded with orders after its Dubai chocolate bar, called the Künefereep in Dutch, went viral on TikTok, mostly thanks to a post by influence Monica Geuze. The chocolate shop has received 2,000 orders in one day, a spokesperson told RTL Nieuws.

The Dubai bar consists of chocolate, pistachio, and künefe, a buttery fried pastry most people know from baklava, Amy Klein of De Bonte Koe told Rijnmond. Künefe produces a crackling sound in the mouth that is wonderful for influencers seeking ASMR in their videos.

Influencer Monica Geuze posted a video of herself eating the Dubai bar from De Bonte Koe, and it quickly went viral. After that, online orders for the Shciedam chocolate shop skyrocketed.

“June is usually not a good sales month for chocolatiers,” Klein told the broadcaster. “In a normal month of June, we receive about 30 orders per day.” After the Dubai bar went viral, that quickly rose to 700 per day. “In less than three weeks, we have sold almost 20,000 bars.” One day even had 2,000 orders, according to RTL.
