16-year-old arrested for serious assault; damage after home explosion in Sprang-Capelle
The police arrested a 16-year-old resident of Rotterdam after they received a report of a severe assault at a skate park on Van Loonstraat in Leeuwarden on Friday evening around 9:40 p.m. Officers found a victim who was punched and kicked in the head and other body parts.
The victim was taken to hospital by ambulance, police said. Following instructions from witnesses, the police managed to arrest the minor suspect shortly afterwards. He is in custody, but the investigation into the assault and attempted manslaughter is still ongoing, according to the police.
The police are looking for witnesses who filmed the assault or who saw a possible second and third suspect participate in the assault.
Home explosion in Sprang-Capelle causes significant damage
An explosion in a house in Sprang-Capelle caused significant damage on Saturday morning. Around 3:35 a.m., an explosive device detonated in the storage room of a house on the Dravik, the police reported. The residents were at home, but no one was injured. The police described the incident as a "huge explosion".
The impact caused the walls of the storage room to collapse and the roof to be damaged. Surrounding homes and several parked cars were also damaged. Images from Omroep Brabant show that the street is littered with rubble. Officers have cordoned off the area. In addition, the fire brigade, the EOD, and the GGD rushed to the scene.
Residents told Omroep Brabant that the explosion was probably caused by rowdy youth. The police are investigating and calling on witnesses and local residents with camera images to come forward.
