First tropical night in Vlissingen; Highest temp measured in Westdorpe yesterday
After the first official tropical day of the year, Vlissingen also recorded the first tropical night. Minimums did not drop below 20 degrees there, Weeronline reports. The highest temperature on the year’s first hot day was measured in Westdorpe in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen at 35.4 degrees, Weer.nl reports.
Despite minimums in Vlissingen not dropping below 20 degrees, it was not the first official tropical night of the year. For that to happen, the minimum temperature must be 20 degrees or higher at the national weather station in De Bilt. There is a chance that this will happen tonight.
Maximums ranged broadly between 27 and 31 degrees in the north, 30 to 33 degrees in the center, and 33 and 35 degrees in the south. According to Weeronline, the “coldest” place on Monday was Terschelling, with a maximum of 26.5 degrees.
The national weather station in De Bilt reached 32.2 degrees, making it the first official tropical day of the year. However, the hot weather was not enough to break the 18 July record, which was set at 33.2 degrees in 2006.
Weer.nl expects Tuesday to become the second hottest day ever recorded in the Netherlands, with maximums approaching 40 degrees in some places. The hottest day ever measured was on 25 July 2019, when thermometers hit 40.7 degrees in Gilze-Rijen.
