The second victim, a 21-year-old Amsterdam resident, was hospitalized. Police said his injuries were not life threatening. He placed in police custody while authorities investigate his role in the shooting.

The younger victim was found injured on Dulongstraat by witnesses who contacted authorities just before 8:40 p.m. Police arrived on scene and found the man with the gunshot wound. Their investigation turned to a home nearby on Fizeaustraat, where the shooting took place.

Once there, officers found the other injured man. Records show that the first paramedics were dispatched at 8:41 p.m., a trauma team in a helicopter was sent three minutes later, and more ambulances were sent at 8:53 p.m. It was not immediately clear if the victim died at the scene or at the hospital.

Area residents told one photojournalist at the scene that they were startled by three loud bangs at 8:31 p.m., 10 minutes before the first ambulance was dispatched.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, police said on Saturday morning. Authorities asked for witnesses with any information, or those with camera footage from the area, to contact them immediately.
