PVV leader to press charges over video of man shooting gun at his picture
PVV leader Geert Wilders is filing charges over a video of a man shooting a gun at a picture of the populist politician. The video was posted on Dutch video sharing site Dumpert.
Wilders also shared the video on his Twitter account, calling it "sick".
The video shows a man saying "this is freedom of expression", and then firing several shots at a photo of the politician.
Wilders is a great proponent of showing cartoons of the prophet Mohammad, claiming that Islam is curbing freedom of expression. This topic has been in the headlines over the past month, since a French teacher was beheaded on a Paris street after he showed such a cartoon in his class during a lesson on freedom of expression. A Rotterdam teacher also had to go into hiding recently due to threats he received over a cartoon in his classroom.
The Ministry of Justice and Security told NU.nl that it does not comment on threats against and the protection of individuals.
Wilders has been under protection for years because of threats against him.
