A woman was stabbed in front of her home in the Noord-Brabant village of Zijtaart on Monday morning. The suspect fled the scene and is still at large, the Oost-Brabant police said on Twitter.

The stabbing happened at the woman's home on Pastoor Kampstraat at around 8:15 a.m. The woman was "seriously hurt", a police spokesperson said to Omroep Brabant. She was rushed to the hospital.

The police believe the motive for the stabbing is in the "relationship sphere". "We know in what direction we have to search", the police spokesperson said to the broadcaster.

Forensic investigators are at the scene to investigate. The area around the home is closed off.

Zijtaart is a village in Noord-Brabant that falls under the municipality of Veghel.
