Suspect dies after Leischendam arrest
A 22-year-old man who was arrested in Leidschendam on Monday last week, died in hospital on Saturday, the Public Prosecution Service confirmed. The cause of his death is being investigated.
The man's family called the police on Monday because he was in "a disturbed state" in their home, the Prosecutor said. The man resisted arrest, according to the Prosecutor.
He was taken to a police station, where officers became concerned about his health and immediately called an ambulance. The man was admitted to hospital, where he passed away on Saturday.
The Public Prosecutor had already asked the Rijksrecherche, a department of the Public Prosecution Service that handles internal investigations at government services like the police, to investigate whether the arrest was made according to the rules. The cause of the man's death is now added to that investigation.
