Video: Car fest drifting crash injures three; Driver detained

An accident during a car show in Purmerend on Sunday left three men injured. They were spectators at the car show on Newtonstraat when the driver of a BMW M3 lost control of his car and crashed into them. The driver, a 39-year-old man from Purmerend, was arrested, the police said in a statement.

The accident happened at around 5:00 p.m. at car show Carbecue, according to Autoblog. Participants show off their fast or special cars to spectators enjoying something to eat and drink, according to the site. The driver of the BMW M3 made a burn out when starting and lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to drift and crash into the spectators.

The three victims - a 28-year-old man from Hardenberg, a 25-year-old man from Purmerend, and a 29-year-old man from Amsterdam - were taken to hospital in unknown condition. The driver was arrested and his driver's license was confiscated. He was released again after questioning, but remains a suspect, the police said.

The police are looking for photos and video footage of the incident.
