Three women attacked at random near Wageningen Univ.
Three women were attacked in the vicinity of Wageningen University over the past week and a half, the police said in a statement on Sunday. The police are investigating whether the cases are connected.
The latest attack happened between 11:30 p.m. and midnight on Saturday. A 22-year-old student was cycling between Marijkeweg and Haarweg when she was attacked by three men who wanted to steal her bag. The men jumped from behind some bushes and threatened her with a weapon. She managed to get away with her bag and a number of minor injuries, the police said.
A week earlier, on Saturday August 17th, another woman was harassed while walking from Marijkeweg to Haarweg. The 21-year-old woman was threatened and mugged by an armed man. And during the early hours of Thursday, August 22nd, a woman was attacked by a man wearing a balaclava on Dijkgraaf.
The three men who attacked the student this weekend were between the ages of 20 and 25 years old and spoke English with a Dutch accent, the police said. They were all wearing dark colored pants, dark hoodies and gloves.
The police are investigating whether these three incidents are linked. "We call on people to be alert and to call 112 immediately in case of trouble", the police said. Investigators call on witnesses or people who may have surveillance camera footage of the attacks to come forward.
