Man found dead in Wilnis "almost certainly" killed Mijdrecht woman
A man who was found dead on the side of the road in Wilnis early in April, was "almost certainly" the person who shot and killed a 45-year-old woman in her home in Mijdrecht the night before, the police concluded after extensive investigation, RTV Utrecht reports.
The woman was shot in her home on Landsherenstraat in Mijdrecht on April 2nd. Witnesses reported seeing a man come out of the house. A day later, a man's body was found along the roadside on Amstelkade in Wilnis. According to the police, he took his own life. He also matched the description witnesses gave of the man coming out of the Mijdrecht woman's home. Forensic and tactical investigation now showed that he was almost certainly the shooter, according to the broadcaster.
The man knew the Mijdrecht woman. The woman reported him to the police multiple times for stalking her. She also pressed charges against him, but the court acquitted the man due to lack of evidence.
The police, the municipality of De Ronde Venen, and domestic abuse organization Veilig Thuis were all involved in helping the woman with her stalker. They investigated their own actions in this case, according to the broadcaster. "The authorities conclude that all employees acted in good faith. Nevertheless, we were not able to prevent this drama", the municipality said. The organizations did conclude that they need to improve how they share information, so that risks can be identified more quickly.
