Hot day to end in thunderstorms; Code yellow warning triggered

Wednesday will be dry and hot in most of the Netherlands, until the afternoon at least. During the afternoon and evening, thunderstorms with hail and strong winds will move happen the country. The southwest of the Netherlands may already see thunderstorms in the morning. Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow warning.

This morning storms entered the southwest of the country from Belgium, bringing with them a chance of hail and wind gusts up to 60 kilometers per hour. The showers will lighten and stop during the course of the morning, according to the KNMI.

Elsewhere in the country will be sunny and dry during the morning hours. Maximums will range between 23 degrees along the coast to 30 degrees in the east. 

During the afternoon and evening, there will be thunderstorms across the country. Heavy showers may be accompanied by hail and strong winds, with gusts up to 75 kilometers per hour, the meteorological institute warns. A code yellow warning of dangerous weather will take effect in the entire country at 1:00 p.m.

"Traffic and outside activities may be hindered. Avoid open water and open areas, do not shelter under trees. Follow weather reports and warnings", the KNMI said.
