Amsterdam shooting victim identified as gym owner

A man shot and killed on Papaverweg in Amsterdam Noord on Monday night, was identified as gym owner Saban Berk. In 2014 the gym owner told Dutch media that he was often mistaken for, still at large, sex trafficker Saban B. He does not only have the same first name as the convicted human trafficker, but also a similar appearance, NU.nl reports.

Berk previously told AT5 and De Telegraaf that he often had to explain that he was not Sabn B. He is the opposite of a sex trafficker, he said to the newspaper. "I give self-defense courses to girls."

The shooting happened at around 9:20 p.m. on Monday. Berk was found critically injured on the street. First responders tried to resuscitate him, but it was to no avail. The gym owner died at the scene. A silver BMW, which the police believe was the getaway car used by the perpetrator, was later found in Zaandam.
