Vlissingen man accused of date-raping 7 women

A 34-year-old man from Vlissingen is suspected of brutally raping at least seven women after taking them on dates. The rapes happened over the past two years. The man made contact with his victims through dating sites and raped them after taking them on a few dates, the Public Prosecutor said during the first pro-forma hearing on this case in the court in Middelburg on Tuesday, the Telegraaf reports.

According to the Public Prosecutor, a few of the victims were drugged before being brutally raped. They were also handcuffed and beaten. One of the victims sustained serious internal injuries. The Prosecutor suspects that more women may have fallen victim to this man.

The suspect was arrested on January 21st and has been in custody since then. He was not present at the hearing on Tuesday. His lawyer asked for more time to investigate the charges against his client. The court wants to start the trial against the man on July 31st.
