Plant-based 'Beyond Burger' now available in Dutch supermarkets

Good news for Dutch meat lovers who also want to make a more environmentally-friendly choice with their meals. The plant-based Beyond Burger is now available at over 700 Albert Heijn stores in the Netherlands.

The Beyond Burger is a plant-based burger patty by Beyond Meat that boasts to have the same texture and flavor as a real-meat burger patty. It is also more environmentally friendly than its beef counterpart, producing 90 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions compared to a 4oz beef burger, Beyond Meat said. The Beyond Burger is a "delicious and sustainable alternative for those looking to reduce their meat consumption without sacrifice", according to the company.

"With this launch at Albert Heijn, we are excited to introduce Dutch consumers to the delicious taste and texture of the Beyond Burger", said Ihab Leheta, Beyond Meat’s Director of International Sales. "Our mission is to make plant-based meat more accessible, and we're proud to partner with one of the largest retailers in the Netherlands to advance that goal. Whether you're a hardcore meat eater, vegan or somewhere in between, you can enjoy our burger while receiving the added health and environmental benefits of a plant-based meal."
