Various violent incidents on trains; multiple suspects arrested
Multiple suspects were arrested for violent incidents on trains in Anna Paulowna, Castricum and Roosendaal on Saturday. A train driver and a conductor were assaulted and another conductor was threatened with a knife, NU.nl reports.
Seven men were put out of a train near Schagen on Saturday night. They later took another train heading for Den Helder. At around 10:15 p.m. the seven got into an argument with the train driver and conductor. The train driver was assaulted. Four of the suspects were arrested in Anna Paulowna. A short time later the police received a report about a fight elsewhere in the Noord-Holland town, which may involve the escaped suspects. Three men were arrested. The suspects are between the ages of 18 and 24 from Heerhugowaard, Sneek, Budel, Assen and Ter Apel.
In Castricum a conductor was assaulted after he woke up a sleeping traveler. When the 24-year-old man was woken up, he started kicking and punching the conductor. The conductor was not badly injured, but did sustain a number of bruises to his face, according to NH Nieuws. The man was arrested, but has since been released. He will appear in court on a later date.
In Roosendaal a woman threatened a conductor with a knife after he told her not to smoke in the train between Dordrecht and Roosendaal. The woman ignored the conductor and walked to another compartment. The conductor and a colleague followed her, and when they caught up to the woman, she had a knife in her hands. She held the knife close to the conductor's face. The two NS employees managed to overpower her and handed her over to the police in Roosendaal. She was arrested. According to the police, the woman is known to the authorities for showing disturbed behavior.
