Amsterdam, Budapest, Belgrade police all hunting the same murder suspect
A suspect wanted for shooting and killing a man in an Amsterdam restaurant in July last year, is also suspected of a murder in Budapest in September and a murder in Belgrade last month, the police said in Opsporing Verzocht on Tuesday. According to the police, 38-year-old Caba D. is a contract killer with Hungarian and Serbian nationality.
The police believe D. arrived in the Netherlands around July 8th and committed the murder in the Italian restaurant in Amsterdam Zuid three weeks later. He entered the restaurant on Beethovenstraat dressed as a lost tourist and shot his victim in the head. D.'s face is clearly visible on surveillance camera footage. Traces of his DNA were also found at the scene.
The victim, a 62-year-old man, had a criminal record. He died in hospital after the shooting.
D. was convicted of murder and sentenced to prison in Serbia in 2004. He was released from custody in February 2017.
The police would like to talk to anyone who had contact with D. between July 8th and 30th, the day of the murder. The man is 1.60 meters tall with a shaved head, and it can be assumed that he used a fake identity, according to the police.
