Carnival float collapse caused by broken bream, builders say

A broken beam caused the collapse of a carnival float in 't Goy, Utrecht on Sunday, according to the young people who built the float. They were on it when it collapsed. The driver was not under the influence of alcohol and was not speeding, they said to RTV Utrecht on Monday.

According to the police, multiple people were injured when the float collapsed. NOS reported that 11 people were hurt. The group of young people said that five of their friends were taken to hospital by ambulance, and one took their own transport to hospital.

So far the police endorse what the young people say, but they are still investigating the cause of the accident.
