Ajax makes it through to round 16 of Champions League
Thanks to two goals from Dusan Tadic, Ajax won the match against AEK Athens 0-2 and is therefore a certain for round 16 of the Champions League. In mid-December the team will play against Bayern Munich to decide who will win the group, NU.nl reports.
The last time Ajax made it this far in the Champions League was in 2005. Coach Erik ten Hag is delighted, but also still sees points for improvement. "We have to enjoy this for a moment. This is a very important evening for Ajax and Dutch football", he said according to the newspaper. "It's not even December yet and overwintering is certain."
Ten Hag, who is the second Ajax coach to remain unbeaten in his first five Champions League matches after Louis van Gaal in 1994, believes that Ajax is going through nice growth. "We are doing very well and we are developing well. There are still things that can and must be better, if you want to go further. We will have to create more opportunities and also take the first chance immediately."
Ajax will play a home game against Bayern on December 12th. "It will not be easy, because Bayern is and remains the big favorite. But we will of course go for it. That also means that we will have to do a lot better", the coach said.
