Suspect arrested for Amsterdam intern's murder

The police arrested a 25-year-old man on suspicion of involvement in the murder of Mohamed Bouchikhi. The 17-year-old intern was killed during a shooting at a community center on Wittenburg in Amsterdam on January 26th.

The police believe the 25-year-old man from Zwanenburg was one of the gunmen in this shooting. According to Het Parool, his DNA was found at the scene.

The suspect was already in custody on suspicion of involvement in another shooting. This shooting happened on Maarsenhof in Amsterdam Zuidoost, a week before the shooting at the community center. The victim, a 42-year-old man, survived despite sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.

"Due to the investigation, no additional announcements can be made about the 25-year-old suspect at the moment", the police said in a statement.

Soon after the shooting at the community center, the police concluded that Mohamed was not the target of the attack. The police believe that the actual target was Gianni L., who was injured in the attack. L. has a criminal record and was also targeted in another shooting at the end of 2017.
