Three teenagers killed in car accident; 20-year-old arrested
Three teenage boys were killed when the car they were in hit a streetlight on Sportlaan in the Noord-Holland town of Anna Paulowna during the early hours of Saturday morning. The boys, two age 16 and one age 15, were all from the town. A 17-year-old girl from Anna Paulowna and a 20-year-old man from Oudesluis were injured. The man from Oudesluis was later arrested as a suspect, the police said.
The accident happened just after midnight. All five victims were in the same car. Several of them were thrown from the car when it hit the streetlight. Bystanders, and later first responders, tried to resuscitate the three boys, but it was to no avail. All three succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The two injured were taken to hospital, where blood samples were taken from them.
A local resident, who was woken by the accident, told Noordhollands Dagblad that the mother of one of the boys watched as emergency workers tried to resuscitate her son. "It was heart breaking", she said.
Multiple witnesses told the newspaper that the car was involved in a street race, though a spokesperson for the police could not confirm this. "That is one of the things we are investigating", the spokesperson said to the newspaper. "There are always stories going about."
