Keeper, 13, dies after colliding with another footballer on the field

A 13-year-old boy died in 's-Heerenberg in Gelderland on Saturday after he hit his head hard in a collision with another football player on the field. The boy was a youth player for football club MvR, NOS reports.

The young keeper collapsed after the collision and stopped breathing. Bystanders provided first aid while emergency services responded. The boy was rushed to hospital with a serious brain injury. He died in hospital later in the day.

The football club held a meeting for players and parents on Saturday afternoon, and canceled all of its matches on Sunday.
