Juvenile detention, psych treatment for teenager's fatal stabbing
A 17-year-old boy was sentenced to a year in juvenile detention and juvenile institutionalized psychiatric treatment for the murder of 16-year-old Nick Bood in Zaandam. This is the maximum sentence possible under juvenile law in the Netherlands, NU.nl reports.
The court in Haarlem considered it proven that Yasin N. stabbed Nick in the heart and that this was a premeditated act. The other suspect in this case, 19-year-old Mads van den P., was sentenced to three months of juvenile detention for assaulting the 16-year-old boy.
Nick was attacked on April 27th last year, during a busy night out. Many people witnessed the attack. The court believes that N. wanted to take revenge on Nick, who stole money from him. The two perpetrators waited for their victim and attacked him from behind.
Eyewitnesses stated that N. and Van der P. ran off after Nick collapsed. He died in hospital. His stepbrother saw him die. The perpetrators have to pay Nick's stepbrother 15 thousand euros in compensation, because he now suffers from PTSD.
