Four Rijswijk teachers fired for exam fraud; exams declared invalid

The re-exams of seven pupils of the Rijswijks Lyceum were declared invalid because their teachers gave them the opportunity to improve their answers after the re-exams were written. The four teachers will be dismissed and a declaration will be filed against them, the board of the Rijswijk school, Stichting VO Haaglanden, announced, RTL Nieuws reports.

The exam fraud came to light during the second marking of the re-exams. The exam-checkers found that that the seven pupils involved got high scores and that some of their answers were very similar to the answers on the marking sheet. The school board then launched an investigation.

The four teachers admitted that they helped the pupils in this way. According to the board, they did this "for the benefit of the school and the pupils". The pupils involved can retake the exams in August.

The school management informed the Education Inspectorate on Friday evening.

"The school responded shocked to the actions of the four teachers", the board said. "The school will do everything it can to prepare the seven pupils for the new re-exam."
