Unsuccessful search for drowned man in Winterswijk lake

Emergency services searched recreation lake Hilgelo near Winterswijk for hours for a drowned man on Monday night. The man jumped from a raft and disappeared under water, NOS repots.

According to the police, the victim is a young man living in a nearby asylum center. He was swimming with some other residents fo the center when he disappeared under water.

Divers and a sonar boat searched the lake for the young man. An air ambulance and a dreg team were also deployed to the scene. They searched until it was too dark to continue. The young man wasn't found. The search will continue on Tuesday morning.

As long as the victim is missing, the popular recreation lake will remain closed to visitors.
