Explosives found on Steenbergen farm

The police found explosives while searching a farm on Welbergsedijk in Steenbergen on Thursday night. The explosives were stored in a shed. The resident of the farm was arrested, Omroep Brabant reports.

Emergency services were at the scene on a large scale, including multiple police cars, a fire truck and an ambulance. The area around the farm was closed to the public. The police also searched the garden with a sniffer dog.

A neighbor told the broadcaster that the resident's brother rents the shed where the explosives were found. The brother was in contact with the police before, she said, describing him as someone who walks 'on the edge'. "He had to leave his house a while ago and was allowed to store his belongings in the shed", the neighbor said.

Why the police searched the shed is not clear. The police also did not reveal what type of explosives are involved. A team of explosive experts removed them from the property. According to the police, there was no danger to local residents.
