Mother arrested for Rotterdam baby's death

The police arrested a 33-year-old woman in an investigation into the death of a baby in Rotterdam. The woman is the mother of the 7-month-old boy, the police said in a statement.

The child was found dead in a home on Mathenesserdijk in Rotterdam-West on Wednesday morning. A mobile medical team was deployed to the scene, but the baby boy could not be saved.

"We always call in a medical team. Maybe there is still a very small chance that we could save the baby, and of course you don't take any risks with that", a spokesperson for the police said to NU.nl.

The mother was arrested later on Wednesday. She is suspected of involvement in the death of the child. The cause of the boy's death is not yet known.
