The Oscars are in: No Dutch winners

The three Dutch nominated for Oscars all went home disappointed on Sunday. Fantasy drama The Shape of Water by director Guillermo del Toro walked away the biggest winner of the evening, taking four Oscars, according to Vox.com.

A total of three Dutch were in the running for an Oscar. Cameraman Hoyte van Hoytema for his work on war film Dunkirk lost to Roger Deakins for his work on Blade Runner 2049. Arjen Tuiten was in the running for best makeup and hairstyling for his work on Wonder, but lost to the makeup artists that worked on Darkest Hour. And Bram Meindersma's short animation Negative Space was in the running for best animated short, but lost to Dear Basketball.

The Shape of Water won Oscars for best film, best film music and best production design. Guillermo del Toro also won an Oscar for the film. Gary Oldman won best actor for his interpretation of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Best actress went to Frances McDormand for her work in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Best supporting actress went to Allison Janney for her role in I, Tonya and Sam Rockwell won best supporting actor for his role in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

War film Dunkirk won three Oscars in smaller categories - best montage, sound, and sound effects. Disney-Pixar's newest animation Coco won best animation and best song for Remember Me.

Jordan Peel won the Oscar for best original screenplay for his debut film Get Out, and thereby goes down in history as the first black writer to win this prize.
