Third suspect arrested in fatal Diemen fire
The police arrested a third suspect in connection with a fire in a Diemen apartment building that resulted in the death of 27-year-old philosophy student David Swart. The suspect is a 26-year-old man from Amsterdam, RTL Nieuws reports.
The Amsterdam man is suspected of arson. He is in restricted custody, which means that the only contact with the outside world he is allowed, is with his lawyer.
A 24-year-old man was arrested shortly after the fire. And on October 19th, the police also arrested a 23-year-old woman.
The fire happened in a student apartment building on Rode Kruislaan on July 19th. Swart's body and his seriously injured girlfriend were only found hours after the fire started. Due to a miscommunication, the fire department did not realize that there was a second stairwell in the building leading to the highest floors. As a result, only seven of the buildings floors were evacuated. Swart and his girlfriend were found on the 12th floor.
