Venlo woman held hostage in her own home

A woman was held hostage in her home on Genbroekstraat in Venlo during the early hours of Monday morning. A 63-year-old man from Venlo was arrested, 1Limburg reports.

A man overpowered the woman when she arrived home, pushed her into her home and locked them in. Some time later, the woman managed to slip away from the man and locked herself into another room, from where she called the police.

A SWAT team broke into the house and found the woman, according to 1Limburg. The perpetrator was nowhere to be found.

The 63-year-old man was later arrested in his home. A spokesperson for the police told 1Limburg that the victim recognized him. "How they know each other, we can not yet say", the spokesperson said.
