Suspect arrested in 2015 Amsterdam-gang related assassination
On Tuesday morning an Amsterdam SWAT team arrested a suspect in the assassination of Eaneas Lomp in Krommenie in November 2015. According to Het Parool, the suspect is 39-year-old Dani M. He and Lomp formed part of the same Amsterdam gang, which was involved in a number of gang related assassinations over the past years.
The authorities think that Dani M. double crossed 27-year-old Lomp and lured him into a trap, according to the newspaper. On the night of the assassination, Lomp and Dani M. went out together in Amsterdam - surveillance camera footage show them walking through Amsterdam Central Station together after a night out. It is believed that Dani M. tipped the gunmen that Lomp was taking a train to his girlfriend's home in Krommenie.
On Spinozahof in Krommenie, two gunmen opened fire on Lomp on November 7th, 2015. He died in the driveway of a home. The gunmen fled in a Golf GTI, which was later found burning on Meteorenweg in Amsterdam-Noord.
Dani M. is a cousin of criminal kingpin Gwenette Martha, who was assassinated in 2014. He played a prominent role in the group around Martha, and was with Marhta when he was assassinated in Amstelveen, according to the newspaper.
An underworld feud between the group around Martha and the group around Houssine A. and Benaouf A.escalated to a gang war with two assassinations in Staatsliedenbuurt in 2012. A large number of Amsterdam criminals have been killed in this feud over the past years.
In the past Lomp was connected with two assassinations. In May 2013 he was arrested with a gun in his car shortly after Souhail Laachir from the Benaouf A. group was killed at the Waterfront festival in Amsterdam's Scheepvaartmuseum. Lomp was at the festival himself. In 2014 Lomp was also connected with the mistaken identity murder of Stefan Regalo Eggermont on Conradstraat in Amsterdam. The authorities believe that the intended target was criminal Omar Lkhorf, who lived in the same area and drove the same car as Regalo Eggermont. A few days after the murder, the police found the murder weapon in Lomp's home based on a tip. Lomp claimed that another criminal - Massod Amin Hosseini - left the weapon with him. Amin Hosseini has also been assassinated.
The motive for Lomp assassination is not yet clear. According to Het Parool, Dani M.'s arrest suggests a number of scenarios. One is that M. moved over to Benaouf A.'s gang. Another is that M. had Lomp killed because he knew too much.
Dani M. was arrested in his Amsterdam home on Tuesday morning. He is in restricted custody, which means he is only allowed contact with is lawyer. For that reason, the police are not making any further statements about his arrest.
