Fugitive caught after Amsterdam burglary

The Amsterdam police arrested 19-year-old fugitive Luciano D. in Nieuw-West on Thursday afternoon. The young man has been on the run since he escaped during supervised leave from youth detention in June, Het Parool reports.

The police responded to Jacob van Maerlantstraat in Amsterdam Nieuw-West after a reported burglary. There officers spotted a group of young men. When they asked the young men to identify themselves, one gave a false name. The officers confronted him with this and he ran off. The other young men boxed the officers in to give him chance to get away.

After receiving a tip, the police found the young man hiding in a bos on the same street. He turned out to be Luciano D. He is heading back to a youth institution, where he is serving a sentence for two armed robberies.

This is not the first time D. escaped from detention. He did the same in October 2015. Early in 2016, he was shot in the arm by a police officer when he sped away from a traffic check. D. pressed charges against the cop.
