Boy, 14, arrested for attempted toy store robbery
A 14-year-old boy from Rosmalen tried to rob a toy store in his hometown on Thursday evening. He was later arrested after he called the police for an unrelated matter, the police said in a statement on Friday.
The boy, dressed in face covering clothing and carrying a knife, walked into the toy store on Weidestraat around 5:45 p.m. He demanded that the shop owner and assistant, both behind the counter at the time, give him money. The shop owner called the police instead, and the boy ran.
A short time later, the police responded to another call from Rosmalen. A boy called the police because of a conflict he had with three other boys about the sale of a bicycle. The boys argued over Whatsapp and the three other boys were coming over the the Rosmalen boy's house. When the police checked the boy's phone for the messages sent by the other boys, they noticed another conversation about the robbery at the toy store.
The officers quickly realized that the boy who called them was the one who tried to rob the toy store a short time earlier. He was arrested around 6:30 p.m. and is in custody.
