DNA match puts suspect in court 16 years after rape
A 48-year-old man is in court on Wednesday as a suspect in a rape committed in Amsterdam's Sloterpark in 2001 thanks to a DNA match, AT5 reports.
Abedelkader K. recently had to give a DNA sample to the authorities after he was convicted of threatening someone. Once his DNA was put in the system, it matched with DNA traces found in the 2001 rape case.
The rape happened in July 2001. A woman was walking through Sloterpark when she was grabbed from behind and raped. She struggled and resisted, to the extent that she broke her left shoulder.
Wednesday hearing is a so-called pro-forma hearing. When the actual trial will start is not yet clear.
