Child sex abuse at after-school care a "single incident"; suspect confesses

A pedagogical assistant confessed to sexually abusing two children at a Patrou child care institution in De Bilt, the Public Prosecutor confirmed. "This involves a single incident and not multiple moments of abuse", a spokesperson said to NU.nl.

According to the Prosecutor, the two victims were made to perform sexual acts with the 27-year-old man from Utrecht. There is no evidence that the man abused any other children, but this possibility is being investigated, the Prosecutor said.

The Public Prosecutor will decide later on Thursday whether the suspect will be arraigned on Friday. "That depends on the state of he investigation."

The man worked for Patrou for five years. He was employed at the Weltevreden location in De Bilt, in the after-school care department, which mostly works with older children. Patrou dismissed him with immediate effect after these allegations came to light
