Several hurt, five arrested in shooting in Groningen village

Several people were injured in a fight on Torenstraat in the Groningen village of Beerta on Wednesday night. According to the police, shots were fired. A total of five people were arrested, ANP reports.

Multiple people were taken to hospital with unknown injuries. Exactly how many people got hurt, and whether anyone was actually shot, is unclear. The police believe the victims and perpetrators know each other and that the cause of the incident is in the relationship sphere.

The police initially only arrested three people, two of whom were taken to hospital. Finding indications that some of the people fled in a car, the police gave chase and two more people were arrested.

The police are investigating the incident and hope to be able to release more information during the course of Thursday.
