Three hurt in Diemen fire; apartment building evacuated
Three people were injured in a fire in an apartment building in Diemen on Wednesday morning. One of them sustained serious injuries. Firefighters evacuated the 16 story building, pulling dozens of people from their beds, NOS reports.
The fire started around 3:45 a.m. in a home on the ground floor of the building on Rode Kruislaan. Firefighters extinguished it pretty quickly and are now working on ventilating the home and rest of the building. The gas, water and power to the building are all out, the fire department said on twitter.
The residents were given shelter in the town hall. It's not yet clear when they can return home. According to a spokesperson for the fire brigade, the evacuation happened quickly and calmly. "The residents woke up with the announcement that they had to leave their house because of a fire, but there was no big panic. They waited calmly to return to their homes." the spokesperson said, according to NOS.
The cause of the fire is unclear.
