Thunderstorms, wind, hail trigger code yellow weather warning across Netherlands

Meteorological institute KNMI warns of thunderstorms in the Netherlands on Monday. A code yellow weather warning was issued for the entire country. The north-western parts of the country can expect thunderstorms this morning. From this afternoon more storms will enter the country from the south, according to the KNMI.

This morning storms may be accompanied by strong gusts of wind and lots of rain and hail falling in a short time. The storms should dissipate by late morning. From this afternoon and evening, more storms will enter the country from the south. Here too there is a chance of strong winds, hail and rain. The strongest storms should dissipate by Tuesday morning.

"Chance of lightning, hail and wind gusts. Traffic and outside activities may be hindered. Avoid open water and open areas, don't shelter under trees. Follow weather reports and warnings", the meteorological institute warns.

This afternoon will be very hot across the country, with temperatures ranging from 27 degrees along the coast to 33 degrees in the east.

Tuesday will be more sunny, but cooler. Afternoon temperatures will range from 17 degrees on the coast to 22 degrees in the east. The rest of the week will be partly cloudy, with little chance of rain. Maximum temperatures will slowly increase to around 25 degrees on Friday.
