False Alarm: Suspicious object closes A2 highway in Nieuwegein

The A2 highway is closed in both directions between Nieuwegein and IJsselstein due to the discovery of a "suspicious object" on the highway near Nieuwegein on Wednesday. The police and an explosive expert are at the scene to investigate, the police said on Twitter.

The object was found at the Hooglands Jaagpad, next to the Hollandsche IJssel. The nature of the object is still unclear, though according to AD, it is being described as an "explosive-like object".
