Suspect in Amsterdam gay couple assault turns self in

A suspect in an assault on two gay men in front of a dance school on Chassestraat in Amsterdam West in January turned himself in to the police after pictures of him were spread through the local broadcasters, Het Parool reports.

The two gay men, aged 35 and 37 years old, were cycling to the dance school on January 23rd. On Chassestraat a pedestrian shouted insults and slurs about their sexual orientation at them. When the men stopped at the dance school, the pedestrian approached them and started a fight.

During the fight a number of items fell to the ground, including the perpetrator's hat. The couple took the hat into the dance school after the fight. The perpetrator later came to fetch it, during which time the cameras inside the school caught clear footage of his face. This footage was given to Amsterdam broadcaster AT5 on Monday.

On Monday night the man on the footage turned himself in at a police station. According to the police, this happened after he saw the footage. They are now investigating whether he is the actual perpetrator.
