Portuguese bus driver convicted in 2015 accident that killed four Dutch people
A bus driver who caused an accident in Portugal in 2015 with a bus full of Dutch tourists was convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of four Dutch tourists. He was given a suspended prison sentence of three years and 10 months by the court in Portimao on Tuesday, the Volkskrant reports.
The bus, carrying 34 Dutch tourists, was on its way to the airport in Faro on June 17th, 2015 when it crashed down an embankment and ended up on its side. Four people died and 25 were injured.
According to the court, the bus driver was messing with the bus' ventilation and therefore not paying attention to the road. He did not notice that he was too close to the edge.
The court also suspended the Portuguese man's driver's license for three years.
