Dam Square Peep Show tells child sex slave trade stories to Amsterdam tourists

Visitors to a free Peep Show on Dam Square in Amsterdam on Tuesday got a rather different show than they expected. Instead of seeing a naked woman, they saw a young girl dressed in leopard print and huddled on a bed, arms folded. And a video in which former sex slaves tell their stories, Het Parool reports.

The free 'Peep Show' is the initiative of foundation Free a Girl and the girl inside the tent is a 14-year-old actress. The intent is to raise awareness about young girls in forced prostitution. According to director Evelien Holsken, worldwide 2 million children are trapped in in prostitution. In the Netherlands there are about 300 reports per year of minors forced to have sex for money.

Over the past eight years Free a Girl managed to help free 3,802 girls from brothels in Asia.

The initiative was generally well received, according to Het Parool. "It's heartbreaking, if you see that young girl huddled like that with sad music playing", American tourist Scott Austen (25), who is visiting Amsterdam for two weeks, said to the newspaper after coming out of the 'Peep Show'. "Then you realize she's just a child. It makes you think."
