Russian man arrested in Amsterdam cop’s stabbing

The man arrested for stabbing a police officer in the neck in Amsterdam this weekend, is a 23-year-old Russian man without fixed address. The police identified him based on fingerprints, Het Parool reports.

The man is well known to the German authorities due to theft and violent crimes, a spokesperson for the police said to the newspaper.

The officer was stabbed around 00:30 a.m. on Sunday while patrolling on Rembrandtplein. His injuries were not very severe and he could recover at home after being treated in hospital.

The motive for the stabbing is still unclear. According to the police, the suspect is not cooperating in the investigation, hence the need to identify him through his fingerprints.
