Weather warning: Thunderstorms expected this afternoon

Meteorological institute KNMI issued a code yellow weather warning for thunderstorms expected to hit the Netherlands on Tuesday afternoon. The weather warning is in effect for the entire country. The storms are expected to start in the northern parts of the Netherlands around 1:00 p.m. and leave the country through the southeast around 7:00 p.m. The storms may be accompanied by gusts of up to 60 km/h, lightning and hail. This may cause traffic problems, especially during the afternoon rush hour. "Avoid open waters and open areas, do not take shelter under trees. Follow weather reports and warnings", the KNMI warns.
